Reviving the True Lahori Essence

A fine Wednesday morning it was when the students of BNU set off to explore the Lahore museum and its surrounding areas. The Lahore museum built over a 100 years ago is an interesting place to see as it contains not only ancient preservations from one religion but many. The main religions include Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.
As we entered the museum, we saw pictures of Mughals painted on small ivory pieces.

Turning left from here, we entered the Buddhist section of the museum. Over there we saw Buddha's life story carved out on wood/stone.Buddha (real name Siddharhta) went on a journey to attain enlightenment through fasting surviving on a single grain of rice, thus he came to be known as "the Fasting Buddha". Apparently, Buddha had been born a staggering 150 times.

Moving further inside the museum we entered the Hindu section. Here we saw Hindu God's and the emblem of India which is an adaption of the Sarnath Lion capital of Ashoka.

The Islamic section had some interesting showcases of pieces of clothes and jewellery worn by the Mughals. Carpets, pottery, wooden doors used in the Mughal era had all been neatly placed for everyone to see.
Furthermore we saw paintings made by famous artists, pictures of Mohammad Ali Jinnah's lifetime and beautiful coins which had changed during the years.

As our tour of the Museum ended before 12pm, we decided to have Brunch at Anarkali, Lahore's oldest bazaar. My friends and I then stuffed our faces with chanaay and puri. Finally, our day ended as we all headed back towards BNU City Campus.
I would like to conclude my day as an amazing experience into the old, rich and traditional cultures and religions that came into existence and have been preserved under one building.

To party like a star

One of the best events to occur in Lahore is a party, especially that of a very close friend. Yesterday was one of my best friend,Zainabs, birthday. I have known her since 12 years but i became a dear friend to her 6 years ago.

Cold winds blew, light rain drizzled from morning to night. The weather was just perfect for a surprise birthday for her which was arranged by her family. Our mission was to keep Zainab out of the house until the arrangements were done. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, mission impossible took place. She knew something was cooking, hmm a party we say.

The theme was Oscars. Red and black rugs were put to give a starry effect. Balloons were touching the roof. Stars shinned brightly on the floor. The party was filled with life as music burst out of the speakers.

Zainab looked every inch the Hollywood star when she walked in wearing a stunning gown and we popped the party poppers screaming "SURPRISE!".

Birthday Girl, Zainab

The place was adorned with everyone looking equally splendid. The party started with Zainab cutting her Oscar themed cake. It was a scrumptious, chocolate cake covered in white icing, which melted in the mouth.

Too much excitement

Coming to the food, we had an extremely delicious hi-tea from sandwiches to burgers and chaat to dhai balay. Yes i know, goraness and desiness together.

As we all are a bunch of crazy picture fans, we head back to the party room to start our shoot. Every nook and corner became our picture spot. After we got tired with taking pictures, we did a little swirl and twirl to some kickass songs. This left us completely knackered. Leaving a mess after the whole night was the only thing we did best.

                                                                 Much love,

Dengue Virus spreads like wildfire

Dengue Virus is one of the most deadliest diseases to have hit Lahore recently. The Virus occurs through the bite of a mosquito which causes fever, headache, pain, low level of blood platelets. Just last month it was reported that 689, yes that many, had been registered in Lahore alone. In Punjab, 770 cases were found. The Dengue Mosquito looks like this.

The virus does not necessarily kill its victim if proper care is taken of. It is best to drink papaya juice in this case or apple juice with a few drops of lemon added to it. But sadly, many lives have been lost to this deadly disease. From youngsters to elders, many have been taken to God. We could not have possibly ever imagined that an insect we used to kill would one day kill us!
They say death has no age which took away beautiful 19 year old girl Hamna Adeeb of LGS Paragon. Fear struck the heart of students all over the city which urged the government to close down institutions for 10 days to spray the areas with insecticides. Hopefully, we all would want those suffering to get well soon and urge everyone to use Mospel. Stay safe Lahoris!!

P.s. Please donate blood to those in need. You never know how many lives you will be saving and the amount of Sawab Allah will grant you with!!

A new beginning

A new beginning is about my life as a university student at Beaconhouse National University. After my brother and sister left for England for their higher education, i wanted to follow in their footsteps. But as time went by, and they expressed their feelings about how much they missed all of us back home, i knew that i could just not leave my family, let alone Lahore. I always had a passion for photography and my family persuaded me to pursue a career in this field. After months and months of searching i came across BNU, the university offered a variety of courses, all of which were equally appealing, but the one that caught my eye was BFA Visual Arts. It had just what i needed : PHOTOGRAPHY! I applied just a few days back and as luck would have it I got in! Sir Davids words still ring in my ears "For someone so peculiar like you,we will take you!".
The SVAD Dept. was called in for their orientation session today. When i left in the morning, i saw grey fluffly clouds and just knew a beautiful weather was on its way. As i reached City Campus, rain drizzled over the area and as we made our way to the Tarogil Campus, the rain just poured like banging riots in london. After an intense battle with the rain and traffic, we got to Tarogil Campus. The Campus is spread over a huge area of land in the outskirts of Lahore. After 2 mins drive we got to our Dept. Beautifully constructed in red bricks, lush green vines hung down the balconies. Every corner had fields and fields of greenery.
As the orientation started we were told that we would have a tough year ahead of us as foundation teaches everything a university student needs to know and we should gear up for an interesting year with BNU. The techniques of video editing, picture editing, photography, drawing, history, reading, writing would be taught to us this year. As exciting as it seems, it would be a hell of a year for me! I hope to use each and every  skill i may not have even discovered as yet in myself to this course. InshAllah , university will be a turning point in my life and i hope to achieve everything i have ever dreamt of!

As the sun rises

Everyone from lahore knows how life in lahore is, but each individual has his or her own set of views about how they see life in this city. With this blog, i would like to show people my perspective of the heart of Pakistan. Firstly, i would like to give credit to my Khala Farrah for inspiring me to start this blog. Thank you =D.For two months ago, i went to London for my vacations. Every other day i would hear about a play or a concert or a party going on in lahore and i would think "why do all the wonderful things happen when i am not around?". 1 month later i was missing Lahore like anything. The day i came back, i saw something really manificient, the sun rise slowly above the horizon. Everyone complained how humid it was but all my eyes could see was the beauty of the morning. Driving home i kept my gaze on the beautiful blue skies. It just told me there was more to watch out for. The next day, when i left for some chores, i could not believe my eyes when i saw how breathtakingly amazing lahore had become. The green belt had lovely plants and flowers added to it, there was a green and white fence to add the extra oomph. A bridge had been added to make crossing the road easier for pedestrians. The neatness and finish to it was no lesser then a bridge you would see in ,say, the US, but i would say it was much better. Driving further down, the Kalma Flyover came into view. I must say the government has done a pretty impressive job here in just over two months. White in colour, green plants on the side, just the perfect colours. The mini "yaad gaar" of Kalma Chowk is just the perfect touch to it. Stunning it looked.
As night dawned, wind gushed with full force banging doors and lahore got a spell of rain over it. A perfect night it was. This was just a beginning to mesmerize over the awesome weather and also the end of my blog today =)
A new beginning not to end soon.
